About
Family First Oregon
Family First Oregon exists to protect families from unnecessary government
interference and to restore constitutional protections in family law.
We are parents, grandparents, professionals, and community members who have
seen first-hand how Oregon’s family courts and child-related systems can harm
the people they claim to protect.
Drawing on constitutional principles and research into child development,
we advocate for a system where families stay at the center, professionals are
accountable, and children’s real needs drive decisions.
What We Believe
- Parents’ rights are fundamental: The U.S. Supreme Court has
recognized that fit parents have a constitutional right to direct the
upbringing of their children.
- Children need both fit parents: Except in cases of proven harm,
children do best when they maintain strong, secure relationships with both
parents.
- Government power must be limited: Courts and agencies must operate
within clear, constitutional boundaries—not personal preferences or vague
standards.
- Accountability is essential: Judges and professionals must be
answerable when their decisions needlessly damage families.
Our Goals
- Establish clear constitutional standards in Oregon
family law.
- Replace vague “best interest” language with
measurable child-development criteria.
- Limit the power of unelected professionals and
require transparency in their work.
- Support families navigating the system with
information, tools, and community.
